Oh Soundwave, you great daft moron....I got my hands on the Alignment-verse novels, and in them (highlight because I don't know if it's a spoiler still, so playing it safe) he's a gladiator when he encounters Megatron, apparently. and all I could think was, "Soundwave!? How does *that* happen?" Then the deranged plot!bunny spawned some friends, and I ended up with the above scenario. It's a pre-war AU, but I want to set this up to eventually go into wartime, so I had to account for Soundwave's past somehow...
